1. Avoid stimulating food like sweets, chocolate and cakes
2. In fact ban fizzy drinks altogether, only offer water over and above their normal milk drinks.
3. Don’t allow anyone to over excite your child an hour before bedtime.
4. Tickling and playing over excites children, so avoid rough and tumbles, keep these for in the day.
5. Bath time… use a relaxing lavender bubble bath and talk calmly and quietly.
6. Be interested because this is the time the child will reveal their fears and anxieties.
7. Read a story; however don’t be persuaded to read more than one book or two chapters.
8. Massage the baby’s feet with soft soothing strokes after a bath.
9. However don’t rush this precious time together as all too soon this time has gone.
10. Make sure they are comfortable with their teddy or comfort blanket etc.
11. It’s fine to allow a night light…remember you were a child once scared of the dark.
12. Play this lullaby or any CD from this Children’s range, avoid stories on CDs
13. If your child wakes up – go in quietly – but don’t speak to your child, sounds harsh, but it works!
14. Quietly check that your child is not uncomfortable, play the CD again and quietly leave the room.
15. If your child continually gets out of bed…quietly take back without speaking and tuck in.
16. Your child may do this for a few times…and for a few days…
17. However persevere and soon you will get full-nights sleep…
18. Children thrive on a loving routine, firm boundaries and feelings of safety and calmness.
PS:
19. Children often don’t mind a baby sitter as long as the sitter is familiar to them.
20. However children need the same routine each night…so leave instructions for sitter to follow.
